Pendragon Panthers DBC
History Page The Pendragon Panthers were officially formed in Jan 02 to provide the Western suburbs with ready access to dragon boat activities and training. The Pendragons train at the World Class, Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith Lakes every Sunday at 3.00 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.00 pm during day light saving. Equipment and instruction are provided and all you need bring is drinking water and boat shoes. During the summer months, a hat and sunscreen are also required. Training usually lasts one and half hours. Pendragon coachs are also available to provide instruction for corporate teams and other groups that may interested in competing. September 2001 saw the Pendragons secure a permanent training venue at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith Lakes and vital training equipment from DBNSW. With the basic requirements filled, all that was needed now were people interested in forming the club. Advertising and articles in the local newspaper achieved some success recruiting members. December 2001, Panthers, World of Entertainment become the Pendragons principle sponsor and an official committee was elected not long after. 2001/2002 was the Pendragons first season and the first event attended was at Newcastle. With Gerry Ebelt, Pip White, Jim Allison, Darren Parsons and Will Deusien paddling for other teams that needed crew. The Pendragons combined with Port Hacking for Chinese New Year 2002 and again for the State Championships on the Nepean river that same season. In January 2003, the Pendragon Panthers drafted its own constitution with assistance from club member Tim Rice. An extraordinary AGM ratified the new constitution and not long after the club was formally incorporated with the Department of Fair Trading. Successive seasons have seen the Pendragons compete in their own right and after three seasons the clubs ranking has improved with membership steadily increasing. The club seeks to be one of the most competitve clubs in the local competition and boasts members that have been selected for State and National representaive teams. As of Oct 2004, the Pendragons have adopted the newly formed Pendragons Abreast Club. The new team has been created with the intent of providing breast cancer survivors in the local area the opportunity to participate in dragon boating activities. The forming of Pendragons Abreast signals a milestone in the Pendragon's development and the club is proud to be directly involved with such a charitable organisation. On 19 February 2005 the Pendragon Panthers took ownership of their first dragon boat. Email:
